There are quite a few movies opening this weekend, including two local movies, one old-style Hollywood and new art-house. But we all know what you’re here for... Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2! Time to get hooked on a feelin’ once again.

For those of you that haven’t heard of 4DX, it’s billed as a totally immersive experience. According to the Wikipedia page, 4DX allows a motion picture presentation to be augmented with environmental effects such as seat motion, wind, rain, fog, lights, and scents along with the standard video and audio. Sounds gimmicky right? Well, from first-hand experience I can tell you that yes, yes it is.

The Guardians are back! But can Marvel's ragtag band of colourful cosmic heroes recapture the psychedelic magic of their first cinematic outing?

Back when the first Guardians of the Galaxy debuted, Star Lord was one of the hottest collectible action figures ever made. The original run from Hot Toys became sought-after and stupidly expensive over on eBay, because that’s how limited supply and demand works. There’s a second chance on the horizon however, as a sequel to GOTG the first means that it’s high time for a sequel figure. One that looks dashing.

Expectations for Volume 2 in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise are naturally higher than Groot’s special buds. Expectations which appear to have been met and surpassed according to early press screenings. It’s always worth taking a pinch of salt along for the ride, but aside from one lone dissenting voice it looks like those critics who got an early screening of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 were bowled over into hyperspace

From the gigantic rotting head of a dead Celestial through to the shining spires that house the Nova Corps, the galaxy is as wondrous to explore as it is lethal in these Marvel movies. A beauty that’ll be amped up even further in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, especially when Ego the Living Planet makes an appearance.

While Marvel might be wrapping up an era with their upcoming Avengers movies, the Guardians of the Galaxy are sticking around for at least one more movie.

The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
