Destructoid have posted an article explaining why they think that a one console future is something that should be avoided at all costs.

one console future, I think it is a really bad idea. I think having a few different consoles but not more than three different types is better because the different console creators compete with each other by trying to make their console increasingly better. The more the different console creators compete the better the consoles become, if there was only one console there would be no competing with other types of consoles and with out that competing the one console future won’t know how to make their console increasingly better if they don’t have any other console technologies to base new ideas on and steal ideas. ❓ 💡 😕
