In what is sure to be a punishment joyous occasion to review a movie for Trevor, a new trailer for director Kenneth Branagh’s live-action Cinderella has just been released, which boasts a rather wicked stepmother bringing back childhood memories. Cate Blanchett plays the overly-evil mother in a movie that I am sure will charm many and not just because the rather beautiful Lily James (Downton Abbey) plays the lead ‘slave’ daughter.
It’s nice to see a movie that isn’t trying to be all dark and edgy, like the awesome Maleficent or the rather not that great Snow White and the Huntsman. Blanchett seems to have had a great time in playing the wicked stepmother and even smashes the shoe! What will ol’ Cindy do now? I suppose she’ll be fine with Helena Bonham Carter (starring in every Tim Burton movie ever made) as her Fairy Godmother, I really need to get me one of those.
Have a watch of the trailer and be warned, Kenneth Branagh spares no expense on colour:
Cinderella also stars Holliday Grainger (Bonnie and Clyde), Sophie McShera (Downton Abbey) and Richard Madden (Game of Thrones). Cinderella is out on 13 March in the US.
