LG V30+ Review – The best video-focused smartphone you’ll ever use

By Darryn Bonthuys
November 14, 2017 - 8 years ago

The LG V30+ was designed for a purpose. It’s not meant to be the Jack of all trades, but rather the definitive video and audio smartphone. It may not have a camera that allows it to hang with the big boys of mobile photography or screen queens, but at the same time the LG V30+ is light-years ahead of its competition in the video and audiophile department that other manufacturers seldom pay any attention to.

All Logitech Harmony Link owners to get a free Hub replacement

By Geoffrey Tim
November 13, 2017 - 8 years ago

Last week we told you that Logitech had plans to remotely kill off its Logitech Harmony Link early next year. The Link is a puck-like device that allowed smartphones and tablets to function as a universal remote. In an email sent to customers, Logitech said that owners whose units were out of warranty (the vast majority) would get a 35% discount on the newer Logitech Harmony Hub. That's changed.

Report: Snapchat’s redesigned UI set to launch on December 4

By Geoffrey Tim
November 9, 2017 - 8 years ago

If you’re old and grumpy, Snapchat is a mindboggling thing. Beyond seemingly pointless, old fuddy-duddies like me struggle with the ephemeral-message social network’s interface, which is unwieldy and counter-intuitive. A change is coming - and it could be around as early as December 4.

Apple is reportedly ditching the home button for its 2018 iPad

By Darryn Bonthuys
November 9, 2017 - 8 years ago

The iPhone 7 marked a departure from that clicky home button, replacing it with a non-moving button that simulated the tactile sensation with some nifty vibrations. The iPhone X took things a step further by chucking in Face ID, thus allowing those devices to sport thinner bevels and more screen real estate. It’s a move which Apple’s iPads are likely to soon emulate, according to reports.

Logitech is remotely bricking the Harmony Link next year, and owners are mad

By Geoffrey Tim
November 8, 2017 - 8 years ago

Logitech’s Harmony devices are wonderful universal remotes that allow users to control an entire suite of devices from one controller, or through a single app. The Harmony Link, released in 2011 allowed for just that. A puck-like device, it let users use their smartphones or tablets function as a universal remote. And next year, Logitech is remotely disabling them. In an email sent to users, Logitech says that in March 2018, Logitech Harmony Link devices will cease functioning.

Twitter officially doubles the character limit for everybody

By Geoffrey Tim
November 8, 2017 - 8 years ago

Since September, Twitter’s been testing its new expanded character limit, letting verbose users flood timelines with 280 character tweets. For some, it’s allowed them to express themselves more clearly, without having to edit their tweets to be concise. For others, it’s let them spew forth walls of garbage. Now everyone can use 280 characters.

By Darryn Bonthuys
November 7, 2017 - 8 years ago

In an industry where smartphone advances happen every week, it’s time for Huawei to step up to the plate with their next big device. The Huawei Mate 10 is aiming to be just that smartphone, as it packs in 6GB of RAM, a 4000mAh battery to keep the lights on and a Kirin 970 chipset to underneath a 6-inch screen with an 18:9 FHD+ OLED display. Intel and AMD are working together on a new laptop chip

By Geoffrey Tim
November 7, 2017 - 8 years ago

I’ve checked outside, and it doesn’t seem like the apocalypse is has started. I haven’t seen human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together or mass hysteria. It does, however, seem like hell has indeed frozen over, as perpetual Intel and AMD are working together on a new chip. The new silicon is engineered to make ultra-thin, portable notebooks that have …
