Buckle up kids, YouTube is tightening its monetisation belt

By Darryn Bonthuys
January 17, 2018 - 8 years ago

Things are changing in the YouTube scene right now though. In the past, being eligible for monetisation wasn’t exactly insurmountable as YouTube required content producers to notch up 10 000 views on their channel before they could monetise their videos. A bit of hard work, self promotion and slipping $5 to a Chinese website to earn those views made it an achievable milestone for many a would-be YouTube superstar. That’s all in the past as of now.

Facebook boss wants the social media platform to be more meaningful

By Geoffrey Tim
January 12, 2018 - 8 years ago

Over the years, Facebook has transitioned from a place you might head to connect with friends you don’t necessarily hang out with in a physical space – to a place you go to, to be blasted with adverts, fake news and cat videos. That's changing.

Vortx is a box that sits on your desk and blows hot or cold air at you while you game

By Geoffrey Tim
January 11, 2018 - 8 years ago

For years now, peripheral makers have tried to up video game immersion through the use of absolutely unnecessary, largely pointless extras. We’ve seen vests that simulate the feeling of being shot, controllers shaped like chainsaws, ambient, colour-changing lights and a goddamned inflatable raft to play Kinect adventures in. None of this stuff has ever really caught on in any sort of mainstream, commercially successful way. could Vortc change that?
