By Geoffrey Tim

The Xbox One X is out later this year, and it promises to be the most powerful console ever released. With more teraflops than Freddy Kruger on a beach holiday, the Xbox One X promises to deliver True 4K gaming to those with the requisite screens. What it doesnt have? Good first-party games.

For as long as modern gaming systems have existed, there have been collections of older games, repackaged and resold. Now there are whole retro consoles - but some may be illegal.

65kg down and more to go: A personal tale of weight loss

By Richard Ferreira

One of the many stigmas that gamers face is that we gamers (and geeks) spend a reasonably large part of our lives sitting in front of a screen, lying in front of a TV or just generally being quite sedentary people. It fits right into the narrative of the badly socialised, overweight and unhealthy lifestyle that many paint us with. It doesn't have to be that way.

I did not hit her, it’s not true it’s bullcrap I did not her! I did naaaaaht…Oh hi guys. I’m so glad you’re here. With Zoe no longer with us and Geoff’s connection to Eskom’s power grid about as dead as my chances of ever getting Gavin to shut up about this “soccer” game, that leaves me with the responsibility of making damn sure that a Best Of The Week post is written.

Friday Debate – There’s just too many streaming services

By Darryn Bonthuys
August 11, 2017
in :  Entertainment, Opinion

These days, everyone wants a slice of that streaming pie as they work to keep content exclusive in order to coax new viewers in. Amazon has three old men beating a dead horse with an old joke stick in the form of The Grand Tour, Hulu has more traditional TV shows available quicker and Crackle has Super Mansion. I haven’t even begun to mention HBO and CrunchyRoll’s streaming options, what with Disney now knocking on the door of online entertainment. The point is, the number of streaming services available is just too damn high.

Is Overwatch the esport for the mainstream gamer? – Overwatch World Cup

By Gavin Mannion

My current addiction is Overwatch where I'm just about to unlock my silver portrait and which is a game my household owns 5 copies of. As such my enjoyment of this weekend's Overwatch World Cup Qualifiers is probably hugely biased, but it has been the first online esports competition that I've voluntarily watched many, many hours of.

There’s no pithy preamble, no stories about how my life is going. Instead, just bitterness and resentment. I’m kidding though! It’s Friday – it’s rapidly approaching beer o’ clock and it’s going to be a great weekend.

Friday Debate: What do you miss about the “good old days” of gaming?

By Geoffrey Tim
August 4, 2017
in :  Gaming, Opinion

Something I’ve seen quite often (especially when talk of how much money DLC makes arises) is older gaming yearning for the “good old days,” some sort of nostalgic pining for an idyllic halcyon era when gaming was pure.

Rape culture in gaming – Feeding a national crisis

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Gaming is not just about playing games, there are far larger impacts that it has on those of us that are in love with this incredible space. We can, and should, be doing better in the gaming scene. We all have a role to play in fighting back against a national crisis.
