Biomutant Review – Designer genes

By Darryn Bonthuys
May 24, 2021 - 4 years ago

Biomutant juggles a ton of balls at any given time, and while it might not be able to keep all of them in the air, it's still an ambitious open-world adventure that's hard to not fall in love with. Maybe it's coming at the right time as well, as its generally laid-back approach to storytelling, wonderfully silly crafting, and deep character customization more than makes up for the rough combat that could do with some more polish.

Erica review – The new FMV game gold standard

By Noelle Adams
May 24, 2021 - 4 years ago

Interactive movies and FMV games have a long tradition, but remain an acquired entertainment taste. Now on PC, former PS4 exclusive Erica, from developers Flavourworks, is an unusually polished thriller that shows how compelling the genre can be.

E3 2021 – Here’s the entire schedule so far and everything else to look forward to

By Darryn Bonthuys
May 24, 2021 - 4 years ago

Last year's E3 was pretty much a write-off long before the Electronic Software Assosciation announced that the show would not go on in 2020. Extraordinary circumstances and saw E3 skip out on having any presence whatsoever in 2020, but this year things are a little bit different. The ESA has put together an all-digital showcase, one that has a beefy number of names attached to it, ranging from the biggest players in the industry through to smaller but no less important brands.

Returnal developer Housemarque says it wants to keep creating bigger experiences

By Darryn Bonthuys
May 24, 2021 - 4 years ago

Returnal, one of the best dang games of the year where you play as Celine Die-on, represents a turning point for developer Housemarque. Up until the release of this grand game, the studio had largely been focused on creating smaller and pure arcade experiences, but Returnal takes that insert coin DNA that made previous games such as Nex Machina and Resogun so memorable, and expanded on it with a bigger serving of AAA sauce.

Behold the madness of scalpers rushing to buy Pokemon cards

By Darryn Bonthuys
May 24, 2021 - 4 years ago

Picture the scene: You're up early, you decide to get some shopping done, and you head on down to ye olde supermarket, only to be met by a horde of fidgety dudes at the front door, hungry for a fresh drop of Pokemon cards which can then be scalped online for grossly-inflated prices. That's the reality which Instagram user tcg_grassi and Twitter user bigcards30 shared over the weekend, as a Walmart in Pennsylvania saw a small mob of folks rush inside the store to score some of that sweet poke-loot.

Is Deathloop a roguelike? Not exactly, but it’s definitely an Arkane game

By Darryn Bonthuys
May 21, 2021 - 4 years ago

Deathloop may have a few roguelike inspirations in its design, but at its core it's still a single-player story campaign.

Joint Xbox-Bethesda conference confirmed for E3 2021

By Darryn Bonthuys
May 21, 2021 - 4 years ago

How is it almost June already, this is madness. Anyway, E3 is around the corner and for the first time in years it's actually shaping up to be an exciting show again! Plenty of big names will be present, and head of Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty has confirmed that Xbox and Bethesda will host a joint conference at the event.
