At a time when games set in Dystopian wastelands are being heralded by titles that are being subjected to internet rage (ahem), one needs to take a step back. Calm down, pull up a chair, smell the flowers. There are pretty flowers in this game. You might just have to trample them to duck (literally) and cover. Mutant Year Zero: …

Aeon of Sands: The Trail review – Pixelated intensity, if a little frustrating

By Sam Spiller

Though littered with some technical inadequacies and narrative obstacles, Aeon of Sands: The Trail is a challenging dungeon crawler with a retro edge and an unexplainable charm. The past dusted off, given a little update, and propped back up on the shelf.

Friday Debate – What’s the best game of 2018?

By Darryn Bonthuys

The Critical Hit gang could wax lyrical about their favourite games of 2018 for years to come, and we certainly will do so with our annual awards that are clearly more important that Geoff Keighley’s upcoming big budget show. Y’know, if you don’t mind an awards show that has the budget of used chewing gum, guest cancellations a’plenty and is being held in the stately location of my kitchen. Top that, Keighley. Today isn’t about our opinions however. We want to hear what you consider to be the best of the best.

The irony of Red Dead Redemption 2’s themes

By Brad Lang

RDR 2 is a fantastic tragedy of characters so stuck in their ways that they refuse to accept that things have and are changing, being so rigid in their ideals that they can’t see past the harm they’re doing to themselves and others. Which is super weird because Red Dead Redemption 2 is also a game that is so super dated and stuck in the past that it hurts the overall experience and leaves me with a strong sense of dramatic irony.

Killing Sean Bean in Hitman 2 is a perfect reintroduction to Elusive Targets

By Darryn Bonthuys

Hitman 2 is out, it’s superb and your first Elusive Target currently available to kill is none other than Mr Bean. No, not Rowan Atkinson (Idea to self: Pitch a Johnny English murder to IO Interactive), but actor Sean Bean, who lends his voice and likeness to Mark Faba. In Many ways, Faba feels like a subtle dig at the entire Hitman franchise.

Today, you can pick up a PSVR headset, with the requisite camera and some bundled games for a far more appealing R2999. It's finally in the sort of pricing where I feel that it’s worth picking up – and in the years since its release, there’s a lot of great stuff to play. If you’re picking a PlayStation VR headset up for Black Friday, here are the games we think you should grab.
