The success of Star Wars doesn’t just come from its cinematic source material though. It’s the canny positioning of this franchise and its ability to evolve into other forms of media that have helped it emerge as a pop culture phenomenon. You look at the video game side of the equation, and this was a brand that was a recipe for success when handled correctly. Which explains the deliciousness of the amazing Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

Kingdom Hearts Abridged – Everything you need to know before jumping into Kingdom Hearts 3

Kingdom Hearts is a truly special series. The uncanny marriage of Disney and JRPG left many scratching their heads back in the day but who would’ve thought that it would actually work out this well. Most JRPGs are very outlandish, and for the most part, never really grounded in any sort of realism. It’s that very imaginative nature that gels so well with the fun and light-heartedness of Disney resulting in a game that somehow takes you back to simpler times, even if the story is anything but simple these days. This is a franchise I wish more people would play and with the third (well not technically as there were numerous spin-offs released in-between) game on the way this would be the opportune time to hop in.

You asked, we listened and Geoff managed to sucker at least one person into helping me out with this post and being brave enough to not just venture into the comments section, but actually set up shop there. Thanks Hammer! With that labour of love being assigned to someone else, I’ve got no issue with bringing back the good, the bad and the ugly of the week, albeit with a few tweaks here and there.

It’s impossible to review every single game released in a year here at Critical Hit, and sometimes genuinely decent games slip through the cracks. This week we take a look at Dave Gilbert’s latest point-and-click foray into urban fantasy.

With Resident Evil 2 returning this month and reimagining Raccoon City as a deadlier hive of the undead, we started to thinking about the most important things in life: Which weapon would we want with us if we were ever stuck in the middle of a zombie apocalypse? When it comes guns, swords and all manner of exotic tools of destruction, video games have never been short on ideas for death dealers.

Hands On – Far Cry: New Dawn

By Gavin Mannion

The Far Cry series is a bit of an oddity in the gaming industry where the regularly released "numbered" titles pop up every few years and then the developers are set free to create weird and exciting new game between core series entries. Normally these games have nothing in common with the actual main game, but with Far Cry: New Dawn Ubisoft has decided to link the two... kind of.

Fun buns. Angel cakes. Bra buddies. Since the dawn of time, man has been obsessed with boobs and nobody knows why. Like magnets that work on your eyeballs, Fairy pillows and flopdoodles have been the very reason why humanity has gone to war for millennia, starting with Helen of Troy launching a thousand ships in the general vicinity of her …

Six Star Wars games we want to see when EA finally loses the license

By Darryn Bonthuys

There’s no sugar-coating one indisputable fact in the gaming industry: EA’s handling of the franchise, has been nothing more than a colossal f***-up of note. Five years into the contract, and the sole provider of Star Wars games on current console and PC platforms has managed to churn out…two games. Now granted, making video games isn’t easy. But if we had our way, we'd be swimming in dream games already.
