By Darryn Bonthuys
February 22, 2012 - 14 years ago

Director Sam Mendes' first video blog for Skyfall is out

By Kervyn Cloete
February 22, 2012 - 14 years ago

007.com has been updated with the first in a series of video blogs by Skyfall director Sam Mendes. To be fair it doesn’t really reveal all that much, but to a James Bond fanboy such as myself, every new little snippet of info is like an early Christmas. Except Santa Claus is a badass, womanizing secret agent.

By Darryn Bonthuys
February 22, 2012 - 14 years ago

There’s a lot to love about Tim Burton and his gothic style of making films, but there’s also quite a few things to hate about his reboot-happy ass. Fortunately, the one film that he is rescucitating this year happens to be one of his own, the 1984 classic, Frankenweenie.

London film theatre terrifies kids by showing horror trailers before Puss In Boots

By Kervyn Cloete
February 22, 2012 - 14 years ago

I really shouldn’t laugh about kids getting traumatized, but oh man, I would pay good money to have been in the Wandworth Cineworld recently. The Guardian reports that the South London cinema accidentally aired trailers for The Devil Inside and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance to a cinema full of young kids expecting to see animated kitty-cat cuteness in Puss in Boots.

By Darryn Bonthuys
February 21, 2012 - 14 years ago

It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen a big-screen portrayal of the angry painter, with Anthony Hopkins being the last person to step into the role, many years ago, in Surviving Picasso. And now, Antonio Banderas is going to grab a paintbrush and canvas, and bring the deceased artist back to life in the French and Spanish language film, …

It's the end of an era, as London’s Twickenham Film Studio faces closure

By Darryn Bonthuys
February 21, 2012 - 14 years ago

What do Alfie, The Italian Job and a Beatles classic tune have in common? They were all filmed at the legendary London Twickenham film studio, but it seems that the iconic property just cannot afford to serve as an area for dream films and music videos to be made, as it will be sold off to property developers this week.

Djimon Honsou and Orlando Bloom are going to be Zulus

By Kervyn Cloete
February 21, 2012 - 14 years ago

Whether it was due to the 2010 World Cup, Neil Blomkamp’s District 9 or maybe even our very own special presidential version of the Bachelor (Who is going to be JZ’s next wife? Tune in this week!), it seems that our little corner of Africa is quite popular in the movie world nowadays. Hot on the heels of Denzel Washington …

Poster and trailer for Eddie Murphy's A Thousand Words – Yeah, I got a few words for ya right here…

By Kervyn Cloete
February 21, 2012 - 14 years ago

What the hell happened to Eddie Murphy?! At one stage the foul-mouthed comedian was arguably the funniest man on the planet, capable of sending an entire cinema into gut busting bouts of laughter with just a single perfectly timed expletive.  But ever since he underwent his family-friendly Disneyfication, he has been churning out nothing but criminally unfunny stinkers. And his …
