The Button and Watchmen mystery of DC Rebirth finally kicked off this week in Batman

By Darryn Bonthuys
April 20, 2017 - 8 years ago

It’s hard to believe that DC’s Rebirth initiative is going to celebrate its first birthday next month. DC promised a soft reboot that would restore its heroes back to their tonal values, a move that so far has resulted in changes both big and small. Superman is now more original than ever before because of really weird reasons, Wonder Woman’s origins are finally becoming clearer and Batman is actually a force of hope. Weird, but good, times. DC also promised an angle that the entire Rebirth event would be built around: Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon’s cult classic comic book series Watchmen. How do the gritty heroes of that world fit into the DC universe? That’s the mystery that began unfolding in Batman #21 this week

The ten best Iron Man armours from the last 50 years

By Darryn Bonthuys
April 20, 2017 - 8 years ago

Maybe the clothes do make the man. Or maybe the suit of billion-dollar titanium armour wrapped around the smug face of a genius playboy philanthropist makes the Iron Man. Point is, is that Tony Stark has had a lot of armour over the years. That’s the point of the character in comic books and films: A futurist who always looks forward and never stops innovating, never settling for tradition or the past in his quest to go beyond the present. Here’s ten of the best Iron Man looks from over the years, while I tinker away with my Mark IX cardboard armour and hope that this time I don’t set myself on fire.

Or that strange new War Thor who wields the hammer of the Ultimate universe Thor and somehow managed to escape from an episode of Doctor Who? How about all three Thors?

Hot Toys’ latest Star Lord figure is a sixth-scale awesome mix

By Darryn Bonthuys
April 18, 2017 - 8 years ago

Back when the first Guardians of the Galaxy debuted, Star Lord was one of the hottest collectible action figures ever made. The original run from Hot Toys became sought-after and stupidly expensive over on eBay, because that’s how limited supply and demand works. There’s a second chance on the horizon however, as a sequel to GOTG the first means that it’s high time for a sequel figure. One that looks dashing.

By Darryn Bonthuys
April 12, 2017 - 8 years ago

Injustice 2 may only be out in shops in May, but the sequel comic book series is already live with a first issue that sets the scene for an even bigger confrontation between the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight, as the two former friends find themselves stuck in a world that trusts its heroes a lot less.

Batman will finally meet his father in DC’s “The Button” Watchmen mystery

By Darryn Bonthuys
April 7, 2017 - 8 years ago

The Flash will soon meet up with Jay Garrick as the two pursue Eobard Thawne and his memories of the universe before the Flashpoint Paradox occurred, as well as a certain darker knight. That’d be Thomas Wayne, who donned the cape and cowl of the Batman when the Flashpoint universe saw Bruce Wayne die that night in Crime Alley, a death that split the Waynes apart and fractured both of their minds. Two Batmen, who have a mystery to solve in the wake of DC Rebirth.
