Marvel wants Legacy to prove that its core characters haven’t been abandoned

By Darryn Bonthuys
September 27, 2017 - 8 years ago

DC would pull its reboot trick again with last year’s Rebirth, as flicking that switch on and off again is something that the Distinguished Competition has mastered over the years. It’s also a trick that Marvel needs to desperately become experts at, as the last couple of years haven’t been kind. Marvel Legacy is meant to be that switch, as heroes new and old return to the fold.

Chew’s Poyo lives again as a badass mother-clucker collectible

By Darryn Bonthuys
September 22, 2017 - 8 years ago

A badass in the body of a rooster, Poyo deserves to be immortalised in the annals of comic book history. Which is exactly what’s happening, as Skeleton Crew Studio are preparing to roll out some merch for Chew in the form of a resin statue of Secret Agent Poyo. Here’s what it looks like.

By Darryn Bonthuys
September 22, 2017 - 8 years ago

The San Diego Comic Con is easily the most iconic example of the mainstream acceptance of nerd love in recent years. It might also be in need of a name change.

The latest Hot Toys Predator figure is one ugly mother-lover

By Darryn Bonthuys
September 20, 2017 - 8 years ago

With just a single Predator to spare, AVP: Requiem buckled down on the hunting action and gave us a proper Yautja that the first AVP had been lacking. A seasoned warrior, equipped to deal with a Xenomoprh infestation and ready to throw down with a Predalien hybrid even. Now that’s the Predator that I like to see on the big screen. Requiem is a guilty pleasure, but I dig it. Because that Wolf Predator? He’s a pure badass at any scale.

Jean Grey is getting a resurrection in X-Men comics

By Darryn Bonthuys
September 14, 2017 - 8 years ago

While Jean Grey was no stranger to death thanks to the Phoenix Force having revived her before, she apparently met her final end in 2005’s X-Men Phoenix: Endsong. Pretty much persona non grata since then (that other Jean Grey is a younger version from the past stranded in our timelines and yeeesh comic book continuities), it looks like Marvel is getting ready to have their trademark Phoenix rise from the ashes again.

The secret identity of Mr Oz has finally been revealed to Superman in Action Comics

By Darryn Bonthuys
September 14, 2017 - 8 years ago

Mr Oz is his name, and global destabilisation is his game. For months now, Mr Oz has been targeting Superman, his family and his ideals. The hooded antagonist has been working behind the scenes, causing chaos in an attempt to prove to Superman that humanity isn’t worth protecting. It’s…it’s not hard to argue that fact really.

Image’s new series The Realm tells the tale of a swords and sorcery apocalypse

By Darryn Bonthuys
September 13, 2017 - 8 years ago

What if the apocalypse wasn’t result of technology running amok, but an army of monsters that were thought to be the sole domain of the fantasy genre? That’s the scenario presented in Image’s next big series, The Realm. It’s ten years after civilisation has fallen, armies of Orcs, dragons and other mythical beasts roam the streets and a small resistance is combing the new wasteland for answers to just what went wrong for our species as they tangle with a sorcerer named Johnny Eldritch.

The Last Jedi’s dapper Kylo Ren is getting the Hot Toys treatment

By Darryn Bonthuys
September 11, 2017 - 8 years ago

What’s the most powerful weapon in the Star Wars universe? The Death Star? Nah, glaring flaw inherent to its design thanks to a disgruntled weapons architect. Starkiller Base? Maybe, but it certainly was one massive target when you think about it. George Lucas left unattended in the editing and special effects room? Close! But no cigar. Let me tell you what the most devastating weapon is in a galaxy whose release date for a new movie is not so far, far away…capes.
