This Mark 43 Iron Man is legen…dary

By Darryn Bonthuys
October 29, 2015 - 10 years ago

Anyway you look at it, Iron Man just oozes great design. Five feature film appearances have resulted in dozens and dozens of Iron Man armour suits, with the most recent prosthesis being the Mark 43 from Avengers: Age of Ultron. And I think I’ve finally found a version of the suit that will fit me.

Box of stuff face off: Nerd Nab vs Geek Crate

By Zoe Hawkins
October 28, 2015 - 10 years ago

I love getting boxes of stuff to play with, and with Geek Crate and Nerd Nab launching locally, I had a couple opportunities. But what was inside?

It’s a cold gun, not a freeze-ray

By Darryn Bonthuys
October 27, 2015 - 10 years ago

Ever wanted to introduce absolute zero to somebody who really deserves it? I can't help you there. But I can help you with the illusion of doing so, with this Captain Cold weapon replica.

Destiny’s mightiest weapon has the edge…in Lego

By Darryn Bonthuys
October 22, 2015 - 10 years ago

The Arc Edge the kind of in-game weapon that I’d love to have propped up on my shelf, for the world to see. Unfortunately there is no official heavy sword available in the real world with a Destiny logo on it. But this Lego version is pretty close to perfect.

Aquaman isn’t a joke

By Darryn Bonthuys
October 21, 2015 - 10 years ago

I feel bad for Aquaman. One of the mightiest heroes around, reduced to a running gag about how he’s almost as useless as GI Joe’s Snowjob when he isn’t in his natural habitat. And that’s a travesty.

The Star Wars AT-AT driver does not come in peace

By Darryn Bonthuys
October 19, 2015 - 10 years ago

Naturally, it took a special kind of Stormtrooper to handle an AT-AT. A Stormtrooper who wasn’t burdened with DL-44 blaster fire magnets. Hey, is it getting Hoth in here?

Always respect your Elder Predator

By Darryn Bonthuys
October 16, 2015 - 10 years ago

Some Predators actually manage to survive a few killer safaris, and actually become recognised as Elders of their respective Yautja clans. Also, they have bitchin’ red cloaks, so you know just how boss they really are. In other words, I think my toy shelf needs a leader.

All aboard the Sentinel Prime space-train!

By Darryn Bonthuys
October 14, 2015 - 10 years ago

I seem to be on a Transformers roll today. The Transformers: Devastation game ain’t half-bad if you can wait for it to be on sale, but I’ve always been a bigger fan of the toys. Especially the toys that those damn kids can’t afford and should keep their sticky germ-ridden fingers off of. And right now, I want to sell Sandy’s organs to get my hands on a Prime piece of Transformers merchandise.

Could THIS box of geeky goodies be worthwhile?

By Zoe Hawkins
October 14, 2015 - 10 years ago

I'm a huge fan of geek and gaming merchandise. It makes me so happy to use my little Yoda USB stick or play with my Rico figurine. But paying for a monthly box of geeky surprises hasn't run quite smoothly yet in South Africa.
